Hello:
What do the words "In God We Trust" mean to you?
You'll find these words on every U.S. coin and
dollar bill. They are this nation's motto.
In 1981 U.S. President Ronald Reagan issued a
proclamation declaring May 7th as a National Day
of Prayer. In that proclamation he said: "Our
Nation's motto - 'In God We Trust' - was not
chosen lightly. It reflects a basic recognition
that there is a divine authority in the universe
to which this nation owes homage...
...While never willing to bow to a tyrant, our
forefathers were always willing to get to their
knees before God. When catastrophe threatened,
they turned to God for deliverance. When the
harvest was bountiful, the first thought was
thanksgiving to God."
When the terrible disaster of 9/11 struck this
country I was moved to tears to hear "God Bless
America" sung by members of the U.S. House of
Representatives on the steps of the Capitol
building.
Now just 3 1/2 years later I'm again moved to
tears to hear how certain U.S. lawmakers, judges,
lawyers and citizens groups are working diligently
to remove all mention of God from government
buildings, schools, public events and even the
Pledge of Allegiance.
If ever I needed a reason to pray, I certainly
have one now!
How soon some of us forget ...
