Up Close and Personal

Hello:
What's your favorite food?
Does thinking about it make you want to stop what
you're doing just so you can savor the thought and
maybe go get some/make some?
Can you smell it and taste it as well as see it in
your mind? I can. Wow!
How long has it been since you last ate your
favorite food? An hour? A day? A week? A month?
A year?
I probably haven't eaten my favorite food (lasagna)
in almost a year, yet the memory of it is just as
vivid as if I ate it yesterday.
Why is that? Why is it so easy for me to remember
every detail about lasagna while I have to struggle
sometimes just to remember where I put my keys?
Surely remembering the location of my keys is much
more important to me on a daily basis than lasagna,
isn't it?
The difference is ... I don't *enjoy* my keys like I
enjoy lasagna. They're simply a cold, indifferent
means to an end. My emotions don't get involved much
with keys. I just expect them to be there when I need
them.
What about the "key" people in our lives? Do they
stand out in our memories like our favorite food or
do we simply expect them to be there when we need
them, like the keys on our keyring?
Something to think about...
